About Nurture-Elle                                    

Nurture-Elle started as an idea when my son Oliver was born in May 2010. Breastfeeding my baby was always my choice. However, my body didn’t want it to make it easy for me and my little one, so I visited a lactation consultant in Ottawa who helped me to achieve my goal. 

One of my challenges when breastfeeding was the uncomfortable and restricted nursing clothing that I was wearing at the time which hindered my abilities to nurse my baby.  Specifically, the openings of this apparel were too small and very difficult to access. On top of that, the clothing for breastfeeding mommies available in retail stores was too loose for me, it made me look fat.

Having worked for 17 years in the textile sector, I decided to design my own breastfeeding apparel and take  into consideration the advice of my lactation consultant and the opinions of other mother’s.  Moreover, I decided it to make it with a particular fabric that would adjust itself to fit my body shape, until I was able to reestablish my pre-pregnancy weight.

I first designed for myself a few tops for the spring and summer period. A few months later, other designs for a fall and winter collection. The samples I designed were sent to Peru for production and then sent back to Canada for testing. It was a big success. All my friends and mothers I met at playgroups started to want a top of their own!
